This backpack is made of sturdy lightweight material and is big enough to fit several large textbooks. The material is also pretty waterproof, and the shoulder straps are comfortably padded. One of the reviewers mentioned that the straps might be uncomfortable for smaller people, but I have not found that to be the case and I am pretty small (~5 ft). They’re actually more comfortable than the old Jansport backpacks with the straight straps. The only thing I don’t like about this backpack is that the lining material makes really loud crinkly noises so that everyone notices when I open my backpack and fumble around inside looking for something.br /br /The color that I got is called ‘white little echo’ and there are little peace signs, butterflies, flowers, and hummingbirds on it. This pattern can look a bit childish on adults even though the amazon picture looks fine when not zoomed in. It doesn’t bother me since I tend to look young for my age.

As a university student, I have to be really careful with my money. I decided to purchase the “JanSport Right Pack (Classic Tan)” for .97 simply because it was the most inexpensive JanSport backpack I could find. And I don’t regret it for a second.br /br /I’ve been using it since mid-October 2008 and it has been a great and reliable backpack. Being tan, it looks cool too. I would have thought black would be the cheapest, and colors more expensive, but oh well. I have been using JanSport backpacks for most of my schooling from elementary school through university (I am now a senior), and am a very satisfied customer. The only thing better would have been if it was sub- haha.

A word about Jansport.br /br /I bought this to replace a pack I had since 98. That pack has been with me all over the world and was solid until recently when one of the plastic locks on shoulder straps broke. While I bought this one to go with me on a recent trip I sent my old pack back to Jansport to get it fixed. Per their life-time warranty, I got my old travel buddy back with not one new plastic lock but two! This is a classic backpack that has been around forever. Works great for basic “campus” uses. I have had a few of them and the only problems I’ve ever encountered involve the stitching by the zipper coming apart. Could just be me, the heavy load I carry, or something else, but it’s something to be aware of if you’re looking to have a really heavy load in there or use your backpack in beyond the average way. If so, JanSport is a great brand and has some other models which are meant for heavier and harder use. For most people though, this model will work great. Even with the problems I’ve had, I keep going back to it.

As an older woman returning to college I did not really want to carry a backpack. This bag is large enough to carry my laptop when needed, three or four large paperback text books and a binder. There is a small, mesh pocket inside that holds my large graphing calculator and pencils. If you have back problems this may not be the bag for you because it doesn’t distribute weight across your back like a regular backpack. I do not have to carry my books very far so it works well for me.
