iBlack Books/i centers around the foul tempered and wildly eccentric bookshop owner Bernard Black (Dylan Moran). Bernard’s devotion to the twin pleasures of drunkenness and willful antagonism deepens and enriches both his life and that of Manny (Bill Bailey), his assistant. Bearded, gentle, sweet and good, Manny is everything that Bernard isn’t and is punished by Bernard relentlessly just for the crime of existing. They depend on each other for meaning as Fran (Tamsin Greig), their oldest friend, depends on them for distraction. Frasier: The Complete Eighth Season Overviews

Emmy® Award-winner Kelsey Grammer is Frasier – the hilarious psychiatrist first seen on TV’s Cheers and subsequently the star of this smash-hit comedy series. In Season 8, wedding bells chime a sour note when Daphne (Jane Leeves) flees her marriage ceremony to run off with Niles (David Hyde Pierce), and the two lovebirds – as well as a hapless Frasier – ultimately find themselves embroiled in a lawsuit as a result of the marital mayhem! Frasier also seeks the wisdom and advice of an old college professor, whom Frasier drafts as his “professional mentor.” And new-puppy training quickly goes to the dogs when Roz (Peri Gilpin) brings home a new Dalmation and Martin (John Mahoney) takes command as the puppy’s official trainer. It’s 22 cupfuls of Seattle’s funniest most flavorful blend – FRASIER: THE COMPLETE EIGHTH SEASON!

Frasier: The Complete Eighth Season Specifications

Seemingly not content to win all those Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series, IFrasier/I made a convincing bid in its eighth season for Best Drama. Make no mistake, IFrasier/I still serves up its unique blend of sophisticated wit and farce with the usual panache. But season 8 finds Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) in a contemplative mood and mid-life crisis mode. The episode “Frasier’s Edge” resonates throughout the season, as a lifetime achievement award and a suspect (only to Frasier) congratulatory note from a mentor sends him into a characteristic tailspin. “Thank you for honoring my life,” a subdued Frasier remarks at the awards ceremony. “I just wish I knew what to do with the rest of it.” It is just one of several powerful moments on which many of the season’s best episodes fade out. In the season finale, Frasier finds himself torn between a new, “perfect” woman in his life, Claire (Patricia Clarkson), and the tempestuous Lana (Jean Smart reprising her Emmy-winning role, and winning her second consecutive statuette). In an affectionate phone call with Lilith (Bebe Neuwirth), he asks, “Do you think I know how to be happy?” In the cleverly constructed “Sliding Frasiers,” which takes its cue from the film ISliding Doors/I, parallel Valentines Day storylines illustrate how “the tiniest decision can change your whole destiny.” In “Cranes Unplugged,” Frasier feels like he and his son Freddy are growing apart, but on a predictably disastrous camping trip, they manage to share “a golden moment.” John Mahoney, too, gives an Emmy-worthy performance in “A Day in May,” as Martin attends a parole board hearing for the man who shot him.p But it’s not all sturm and drang. “The Show Must Go Off” features an Emmy-winning performance by Derek Jacobi as a former Shakespearean actor Frasier rediscovers at a sci-fi convention and mounts a one-man show, only to discover that he is a talentless ham. In “Motor Skills,” Niles (David Hyde Pierce) and Frasier enroll in an automobile repair class and take on unaccustomed roles as the class bad boys. This season also resolves all the obstacles keeping Niles and Daphne (Jane Leeves) apart, including a lawsuit by jilted groom Donny (Saul Rubinek), the vindictive schemes of Niles’s jilted fiancée, Mel (Jane Adams), and Niles and Daphne’s own illusions about each other. For longtime viewers with an emotional investment in Frasier and company, this is a richly satisfying season worthy of this gold-standard series. I–Donald Liebenson/I

Frasier: The Complete Eighth Season CustomerReview

The season starts off with a bang; betrayal, frustration, carefully timed divorce proceedings, a new, young, hip radio station owner who needs a mentor and a pompous ass who takes on a butler, while Mel finally gets her unplanned moment of being dumped by Niles during Frasier’s snooty pre-opera party! The series gets a shake down and shapes up for more hilarity! The fun continues when Dr. Mary, the bubbly radio show host returns to KACL and joins Frasier for the Christmas parade banter, live on TV but the icing on the cake is Daphne getting ever so large while Niles nor she seem to notice, instead they both blame the dry cleaners for shrinking her clothes and in a moment of truth when Daphne trips no one Crane alone can lift her off the floor but three, not to mention spending Valentine’s Day with Daphne and Niles smooching sauce off each other; very funny and charming. Other highlights include `Frasier’s Edge’, where Frasier’s self-analysis tortures him and shakes him up….a lot; the only episode in Frasier history not to end on a high note but a sombre one, also `Cranes Unplugged’ where frustrated Frasier tries to desperately bond with his teenage son and a very frustrated Roz tries to hitch a drop-dead gorgeous surgeon who has a voice like a Greek God! The `pieces de resistence’ are when Frasier and Niles decide to coast through a mechanics course with hilarious results and when John Glenn joins the cast for space exploration and everyone goes overboard and the episode where Martin insists that Niles let Frasier back into the wine club; Martin’s line `are you going to let your brother play?’ repeated over and over till he gets results is comedy heaven! Also a very touching episode when Daphne returns from the fat farm. The season also hosts a well-written role for Jean Smart who returns in the role of Lana; in the vein of the season’s tendency to develop characters we witness a very interesting relationship between her and Frasier as well as one of the most understated and creative episodes in the series’ history is the touching `A Day in May’, which beautifully tells the stories of three relationships; a sweet one, a challenging but charming one with a touch of realism and a sad and devastating one.br /br /Meanwhile Bulldog and the rest of the supporting cast are unplugged for most of the season, except for Kenny who pulls a few punches on the show; the stories center mostly with the lead cast.br /br /This season is formidable, epic in its approach and extremely entertaining; definitely one of the best in the series and a strong contender for the ultimate Frasier experience; it surpasses the sitcom standard. This season goes through many changes and emotions with fantastic character development. I only have one frustration; the writers present the best woman Frasier has ever met on one of the final episodes but choose to let her slip through his hands once again, it is a quite a torture they have put us through with Frasier constantly missing great opportunities…Season Eight is a true to form classic!br /

All Creatures Great Small: The Complete Series 2 Collection (Repackage) CustomerReview

When James Herriot’s first book came out decades ago, I was a neophyte book reviewer for a big city newspaper. At the time, I predicted that the book would be a smash hit. It surpassed any expectations my imagination could have conjured up. Later, the British TV series picked up the ball and ran with it. br /Whenever I’m down-in-the-dumps, I pick up the Series 2 collection and put on the Christmas at Skeldale House episode, which comprises all that is so heartwarming about the series, including the finding and bringing home of the Christmas tree, the healing of a little girl’s beloved pony, and the gift of the mistletoe. If I were marooned on a desert island, this is one of the collections I would want with me. One never tires of the evocative opening musical theme, nor of traveling to England’s pre-WW II Yorkshire Dales to once more be in the presence of the irascible Siegfried, the dedicated James and his patient wife, the hormonal Tristan, and the Darrowby regulars, including Tricky Woo and Mrs. Pumphrey. br /br /The series belongs in a space capsule so a thousand years from now, if civilization has survived, viewers can discover some of the best of times that existed before some of the worst of times.br /br /Having grown up on a farm, I well recall the veterinarian’s visits, so I should add a warning — Be prepared: Impressionable young children may ask a lot of questions, such as, “Why does that man have his hand inside the cow?” or, in the birthing scenes, “How did that baby lamb get inside the mother?” There is a scene of a horse being gelded, and also a few scenes of animals being euthanized. They are low-key and not sensationalized, but could easily disturb a sensitive child, so parents may want to pre-view the series and decide whether they find such scenes suitable for child viewers, especially those prone to nightmares. Aside of that, I can’t think of a better introduction to the rewards of helping animals and being kind to them than the Herriot series.

One Fine Day! The Complete Series CustomerReview

I am an older woman (50+) and was introduced to the show by my nephew. I was not expecting a “good” show since it was written, filmed, etc. by college students. BOY, did I get surprised. I watched the first show of the second season. At this point, I wanted to know more about these characters and started watching the shows from the first season. To say the least, I was hooked and looking forward to each new show. This is a well written, honest look at college life. It will make you laugh, smile and sometimes even a little sad. You will learn to love each and every character and look forward to their next “adventure”. I know I did!!!

Married with Children – The Complete Fourth Season Overviews

Loud-mouthed. Obnoxious. More vulgar than ever. We wouldn’t have them any other way. Make room on the couch for Married With Children: The Complete Fourth Season, another hilarious helping of demented domestic dysfunction as only as the comically crude Bundys can deliver. Loaded with 23 envelope-pushing episodes on a three-disc collector’s set, this deluxe collector’s edition features uproarious classics like “Hot Off the Grill,” “Dead Men Don’t Do Aerobics,” and special two-parter “It’s A Bundyful Life,” as Al, Peg, Kelly and Bud manage to turn domestic bliss into a battlefield, while nosy neighbor Steve finally leaves Marcy and the ‘burbs for good! Starring Katey Sagal (“8 Simple Rules”), Christina Applegate (Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy), and Ed O’Neill (Spartan) and sexy guest stars like Traci Lords, Tiffany Amber Thiessen, and Ted McGinley, Married With Children: The Complete Fourth Season reminds us why those darn Bundys are too hot to handle after all these years!

Married with Children – The Complete Fourth Season Specifications

It’s fitting that the producers of IMarried…With Children–The Complete Fourth Season/I were too cheap to pay for the rights to the show’s classic theme song, the jaunty Sinatra tune “Love Marriage,” replacing it with some crappy instrumental. Not because the season is lousy–on the contrary, the show’s crass and cynical wit is in full bloom–but because if the Bundys themselves were putting this out, they’d blow off the theme song as well. One of the longest-running sitcoms ever, IMarried…With Children/I portrayed American domestic life as bitter, sleazy, and perpetually hungry, yet bound together by the loyalty of the mutually damned. Emasculated shoe salesman Al Bundy (Ed O’Neill, IDutch/I, ISpartan/I), his lazy and unsatisfied wife Peg (Katey Sagal, I8 Simple Rules/I), his dimwitted slut of a daughter Kelly (Christina Applegate, IAnchorman/I, IView from the Top/I), and his horny, conniving son Bud (David Faustino, IThe Trouble with Frank/I) all bicker and scheme to achieve any meager improvement of their lives. For example, Peg wants to buy an idol of Tubro, the fat Panamanian god of money, hoping that good luck will help her win the lottery; so she sells Al’s beloved IPlayboy/I collection, launching Al into the depths of despair until he musters the shreds of his manhood and orders her to retrieve them. Or when Al, feeling suicidal on Christmas, gets a glimpse of how happy his family would be if he’d never been born and decides to live to keep their lives as awful as his has been. But it’s not simply the parade of suburban atrocity that makes the show funny–it’s the zest of the cast, who wallow in their white trash characters with gusto and commitment. Their glee gives the show a sardonic bite that transforms the squalor into something strangely giddy and transcendent, a vivisection of human pettiness that an 18th century novelist like Thackeray would appreciate. The fourth season features a startling array of guest stars, including Milla Jovovich (IThe Fifth Element/I), Joe Flaherty (ISCTV/I), Tiffani-Amber Thiessen (IBeverly Hills 90210/I), screaming comedian Sam Kinison, and former porn starlet Traci Lords. I–Bret Fetzer/I

Married with Children – The Complete Fourth Season CustomerReview

This 1989-90 Season of the Bundy’s is awesome and is even better than the first 3 seasons of this show, despite the unfortunate fact that this is the season when Marcy’s husband Steve Rhoades(David Garrison) departs from the show in the second half of the 4th Season.br /br /I liked seeing Tiffany-Amber Thiessen on MARRIED WITH CHILDREN before her SAVED BY THE BELL days and BEVERLY HILLS 90210 days, since they showed Tiffany Amber Thiessen as a guest star before she was even famous along with the fact that nobody knew that Tiffany-Amber Thiessen was going to become a co-star on SAVED BY THE BELL and BEVERLY HILLS 90210 when she guest starred on MARRIED WITH CHILDREN as Bud’s prom date(Heather McCoy). br /br /Therefore, seeing Tiffany-Amber Thiessen on MARRIED WITH CHILDREN was almost like seeing some casts colliding between SAVED BY THE BELL and MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, since seeing Kelly next to Heather McCoy on the Bundys was almost like watching the casts colide between Kelly Bundy(Christina Applegate) and Kelly Kopowski(Tiffani-Amber Thiessen) along with the fact that Christina Applegate was the hottest and best looking co-star on MARRIED WITH CHILDREN and Tiffani-Amber Thiessen was the hottest and best looking co-star on SAVED BY THE BELL. br /br /I also liked the episode when Al(Edward O’Neill) fantasizes about himself being a James Bond type character hero in the episode when Al, Kelly, and Bud go to Las Vegas to track down Peggy(Kate Sagal) and Marcy(Amanda Bearse) after they get stranded there after going broke from nutso gambling while Marcy tries to get over her divorce from Steve, which reminds me of my teenage days of living in the Imperial Valley since I was a Junior in high school in my hometown(El Centro, CA)at the time when this season was running on Fox. br /br /By the way I just got word that the Bundy’s 11th Season is now in the works and is scheduled to be released this Fall on October 13th, 2009 and I can hardly wait either since the 1996-97 Season was the last and final season of the Bundy’s on top of that.

I grew up on the original Battlestar Galactica. I couldn’t really get into the new one on ScyFy. This collection is very good. Because the show is great, I’m giving it a four star. Disk 4 and 5, while they look like they are two sided, the second side is blank. There is nothing missing on the disc, the sides are just blank. Disc 3 side 2 has a one hour episode. This could have been done in 4 double-sided disks. The way the disc are placed in the casing does provide some extra protection, but double sided disc tend to scratch. Disk 5 stopped playing a few times.

Curb Your Enthusiasm – The Complete First Second Seasons Overviews

Like its fellow HBO series ISex and the City/I, this half-hour comedy broke some TV rules and went from critics’ darling to an award-winning series in three years. ICurb Your Enthusiasm/I is the brainchild of star-creator Larry David who co-created ISeinfeld/I and was the basis for the easily rattled George Costanza (who was played by Jason Alexander). Like George, David has a tendency to speak too much, blow things out of proportion, and, most often, fail in the end (and often liking it that way). David’s new show is also like its predecessor: it’s about “nothing” except following the day-to-day ramblings of a sometime writer and comic (this time in L.A.). Eternal questions stemming from universal daily dilemmas are honed to perfect comedic absurdity. A notable exception is the show is only scripted by plot; much of the action is improvised. The first season starts with a one-hour mockumentary following David’s return to stand-up for the first time in years; the other 10 episodes follow a more traditional sit-com setup. David plays “himself” (as does his friend, Richard Lewis) although his manager and wife are played by comedians Jeff Garlin and Cheryl Hines. Although this first season is a comedic gem, one can’t take more than an episode or two at a time–it’s acidic, biting comedy. The episodes are often built like a house of cards, which the irritable David will surely collapse by the end. Like another caustic TV character, Dabney Colman’s Buffalo Bill (1983-84), Larry David is not for everybody. pp The second season is more of the same, and for fans, that’s a good thing. The closest thing to an arc is David’s season-long pitch to the networks for a new show starring former ISeinfeld/I stars Jason Alexander and Julia-Louis Dreyfus. Each network is lampooned, especially HBO, which David has a bad history with in this alternate world. Sure to repel those with soft funny bones, ICurb’s/I acerbic comedy allows jokes where David is accidentally framed–if ever so briefly–as a child molester, wife abuser, or murderer. But for those who do love his shtick, there are big laughs, especially when we bump into characters as unbridled as David, like a fellow writer who is quite protective over his dad’s invention, the Cobb salad. Many comic actors pop up, some as “themselves” (Richard Lewis, Rob Reiner) and others as characters (Rita Wilson, Ed Asner) along with the delights of co-stars Cheryl Hines as David’s wife and his affable manger, Jeff Garlin. There are several touchstone bits: what a thong brief can do to a relationship, a run-in with pro wrestler, Larry’s first baptism, and one very collectible doll. To pick one episode to capture this second season–and its grandstanding nature–it would be “Shaq,” in which the NBA star is accidentally tripped, changing David’s usual bad luck with gut-busting results. I–Doug Thomas/I

Curb Your Enthusiasm – The Complete First Second Seasons CustomerReview

I have never enjoyed a television show more than this. I leave every episode with an enormous smile on my face, and the remnants of well-needed laughter. After a stressful day, there is nothing more comforting than watching the mishaps of Larry David. He makes you think about things you probably seldom – if ever – think about, and his attitude towards situations and people is so believable. I don’t doubt that his real life is what inspires each episode. I anxiously await the next season and am so happy that HBO keeps renewing it.

Legendary Warrior – Complete Series CustomerReview

“The Legendary Warrior” was the first chinese TV drama I watched. At the time, I was looking for some good action and history drama, in standard mandarin, but with English subtitles. I purchased that after watching a small preview on the web. I was not disappointed. This epic series tells the story of Xue Ren Gui, a skilled fighter who rose from low-rank status to become the Tang emperor’s best general. br /The series is addictive, with a superb pilot episode showing what makes this show so good: a mythical context, superb fight scenes, good music. I was hooked right from the start. br /The english subtitles are good. They do have some flaws, such as a few spelling mistakes, or the use of familiar english at places, but they really allow you to follow the story. br /I have to mention that disc 13 has a wonderful fight scene, which is quite long, between Luo Tong and the prince. I was impressed by this scene, which is of outstanding level for a TV series. br /Other than that, the picutre quality is very good, as is the sound. I hope to find other series like this one!
