This is my first digital camera – I had been using a film prosumer camera, and decided to switch after the film camera finally conked off. While there are many point and shoot cameras out in the market that are much more compact and stylish than this camera, they cannot beat this camera in terms of image quality and functions. The manual zoom is a great selling point for me, as its usage of AA batteries (I usually take pictures while travelling, and AA batteries can be found just about anywhere). The main issues I have with this camera is the lack of image stabilisation, and it is extremely difficult to get good pictures in low light or at night. Nonetheless, it is an excellant travel camera – in daylight it takes very decent pictures that surpasses what point-and-shoots can achieve, and its zoom lens of 24 mm to 300mm cannot be beat by DSLRs, which usually require at least 2 lens to get the same range, i.e. more things to lug around. It is also probably a good camera to get (given the price) to test out to see if you have sufficient interest in photography to upgrade to a proper DSLR.
