Then known as the Eureka Tent Awning Company, its first wares were canvas products–most notably, Conestoga wagon covers and horse blankets for nineteenth century American frontiersmen–as well as American flags, store awnings, and camping tents.p The company increased production of its custom canvas products locally throughout the 1930s and during the 1940 and even fabricated and erected the IBM “tent cities” just outside Binghamton. The seven acres of tents housed thousands of IBM salesmen during the company’s annual stockholders meeting, which had since outgrown its previous locale. In the 1940s, with the advent of World War II and the increased demand for hospital ward tents, Eureka expanded operations and began shipping tents worldwide. Ultimately, upon the post-war return of the GIs and the resultant housing shortage, Eureka turned its attention to the home front during the 1950s by supplying awnings for the multitude of mobile homes that were purchased.p In 1960, Eureka’s new and innovative Draw-Tite tent, with its practical, free standing external frame, was used in a Himalayan Expedition to Nepal by world renowned Sir Edmund Hillary, the first person documented to summit Mt. Everest only six years earlier. In 1963, Eureka made history during its own Mt. Everest ascent, with more than 60 of its tents sheltering participants from fierce 60+ mph winds and temperatures reaching below -20°F during the first all American Mt. Everest Expedition.p For backpackers and families, Eureka introduced its legendary Timberline tent in the 1970s. Truly the first StormShield design, this completely self-supporting and lightweight backpacking tent became one of the most popular tents the entire industry with sales reaching over 1 million by its ten year anniversary.p Eureka tents have also traveled as part of several historic expeditions, including the American Women’s Himalayan Expedition to Annapurna I in 1978 and the first Mt. Everest ascents by a Canadian and American woman in 1986 and 1988. In recent history, tents specially designed and donated by Eureka sheltered Eric Simonson and his team on two historic research expeditions to Mount Everest, this time in a quest for truth regarding the 1924 attempted summit of early English explorers George Mallory and Andrew Irvine. During the 1999 expedition, the team made history finding the remains of George Mallory, but the complete mystery remained unsolved. Returning in 2001 to search for more clues, the team found amazing historical artifacts which are now on display at the Smithsonian.pstrongfont color=CC6600BIGAmazon.com Tent Guide/BIG/font/strongbrstrongfont color=CC6600Selecting a Tent/font/strongbr Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:pstrongfont color=CC6600Expect the Worst/font/strongbr In general, it’s wise to choose a tent that’s designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you’ll face. For instance, if you’re a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick–especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you’re a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you’ll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.pstrongfont color=CC6600Three- and Four-Season Tents/font/strongbr For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.p For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.pstrongfont color=CC6600Domes and Tunnels/font/strongbr Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.pstrongfont color=CC6600Size Matters/font/strongbr Ask yourself how many people you’d like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you’re a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don’t need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.p Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it’s easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It’s also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you’re considering.p

Eureka Tetragon 8 Adventure 8-Foot by 7-Foot Four-Person Tent CustomerReview

I purchased this tent to backpack with my 3 kids. While this isn’t exactly a backpacking tent at 8.5 lbs, it’s really only about 1lb heavier than other 4 person backpacking tents I could find, all of which cost at least 3 times as much. The lightest 4 person tent I found was 0 and 7lbs, so I figured for a 0 savings I could deal with a little extra weight. br /br /I just used it for the first trip last weekend and it worked great. The tent part packed down nice and small and was compressed pretty easily, the only negative is that the poles are exceptionally long. I had to unzip the sleeping bag compartment a little and slide the poles down into it to get it in the pack (it’s a 65L pack with an expanding collar on top). When we got to the camp it was very easy to set up, even though I’d never done it before nor had any instructions. The tent looks good and is a great size, although 4 adults would be cozy in it (at 8′ wide, essentially each person gets 2′ of room which is plenty for a thermarest, but no extra for gear). br /br /And of course, it poured down rain the entire time. I’m happy to say the tent is 99% waterproof. After a night of heavy downpours I found 2 quarter sized spots of water in the tent, not enough to get anyone wet but I’ll probably go over it with seam sealer to be safe.br /br /Overall I’m happy with the performance and price, and although it’s not really meant to be used for backpacking, it will do the job in a pinch.

Wenzel Lone Tree Hiker Tent CustomerReview

I just took this tent for its first run on a camping trip this weekend and I’m pleased to say that it fulfilled all my expectations. br /br /The tent and all the accessories fit nicely into the included carrying bag, I’m glad they didn’t try and stuff everything into a smaller bag that I’d never be able to fit it into again. It’s nice and compact, I bought this tent for motorcycle camping on a medium cruiser without big saddlebags or luggage and it’s perfect for this function.br /br /I hadn’t taken it out its package before I got to the camp site, so it was basically a trial by fire rushing to get it up at dusk. As expected, setup was very straightforward and it went up quickly. I had to pop the rainfly on in the middle of the night when it started raining, and that was a piece of cake as well. The construction was sound, the tent poles were fine, no issues there. The fabric and seams were very well put together and tight for a tent in this price category.br /br /It rained fairly heavily on the last morning, and I didn’t get any leakage, except a tiny bit around the door area when I had to open the window cover and when I had to step out of the tent a few times briefly. The rainfly doesn’t do much for covering the door area, as the door slopes outward towards the bottom, and it simply doesn’t cover it enough. A setup that would allow at least another 6-10 inches of cover would make this tent perfect. This is the only drawback of this tent, albeit a small one. The floor of the tent is tough and watertight, though not a bathtub style, it still comes up a couple inches or so when staked properly to protect from average runoff.br /br /As far as space is concerned, i know this is advertised as a 2 man tent, but this is stretching it in my opinion. This is a very comfortable 1 person tent, with room to sleep and put your pack and a few other things. I’m 6 foot, and a big guy and I had no issues with space.br /br /I had to pack this tent up in the rain, and it was a breeze to quickly roll up and stuff everything into the bag it came with.br /br /In summary, this is a great little tent for the money and should meet the needs of all but the most hardcore backpackers.

I bought 2 of these fans about 5 years ago. At first we only used them at night. I was AMAZED that I could run it all night (it is COMPLETELY SILENT) on a 4 night trip and it was still going strong. I’ve since bought 2 more as gifts. Sometimes I attach them to the canopy over our picnic table or just carry them. We use these fans on every trip and I never worry about them falling or breaking or running out of juice. I don’t know what others are doing with their fans to have such poor performance. I keep mine in a coffee can between trips, in a hot attic (w/o battery of course) and they work time and and time again with no problems. I just pull off the propellers and put the pieces in the can. Simple. With the magnetic grip you can attach it right to the gear loft and enjoy a great breeze just like having a ceiling fan. I love them. By the way… you might think open blades are a safety issue but they are very gentle and stop the instant they encounter an obstruction. I’ve stuck my fingers in them many times (as have my children) and they have been totally harmless. The blade stops instantly and it doesn’t hurt one bit. It’s kind of a good party joke. The magnet is super strong and holds tight. I wish I had these when my kids were in strollers.

The tent sleeps 6 people comfortably, with a footprint of 17′x9′ and a center height of 6′4″. From the built-in lighting system to the hinged door and Auto-Roll window, the Coleman Elite WeatherMaster 6 screened tent is packed with features for comfort and convenience at the campsite. Hailing from Coleman’s Elite line–which is designed to offer the ultimate luxury family camping experience–The WeatherMaster 6 sleeps six people comfortably, with an extra-large footprint of 17 by 9 feet and a center height of 6 feet 4 inches. The WeatherMaster 6 is outfitted with Coleman’s exclusive WeatherTec system, a series of technical features intended to protect you from inclement weather and nasty storms.p WeatherTec tents are built with a coated polyester fabric combined with anti-wicking thread, webbing, and zippers, all designed to keep you dry when the rain comes down. The tent’s welded waterproof floor and inverted floor seams, meanwhile, dramatically increase the water resistance by hiding the needle holes inside the tent and away from the elements. And in addition to offering fully taped rainfly seams, the included rainfly covers the doors and windows tightly and incorporates easy-to-use Velcro frame attachments. Add in a strong, wind-responsive frame–which uses redesigned poles and guy-out triangles to anchor the tent–and you have a shelter that performs like a brick house during a storm. In fact, Coleman is so confident in its WeatherTec system that it exposes its WeatherTec tents to a rain room that simulates nasty downpours, and to a wind machine capable of blowing hurricane force gusts. The results? Even after the tests, Coleman guarantees its WeatherTec tents will keep you dry. ptable align=left width=300 cellpadding=10trtdimg src=”http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/stores/sport-goods/B001RPIOMI-1.jpg” border=0 align=topbrbrsmallibThe WeatherMaster 6 is designed to offer the ultimate luxury camping experience./b/i/small/td/tr/table The WeatherMaster 6 is extremely spacious compared to most other tents, giving you plenty of room to wander around or pack family members inside. The three rooms can function as individual bedrooms, living spaces, or gear-storage units, with a special screened room that’s ideal for sleeping under the stars or relaxing in the daytime during a mosquito-heavy sunset. Campers will also love the hinged door, which includes a rigid doorframe that’s easy to install and take down (the overlapping door flap also helps keep insects out when closed). Perhaps the tent’s coolest feature, however, is the integrated lighting system, which features a replaceable 15-watt spiral fluorescent tube powered by a D-cell battery pack (eight D-cells required). No more relying on a clumsy lantern for nighttime reading, or fumbling for a flashlight when you need to make a trip outside. The light isn’t blinding, but it’s plenty bright enough to read by at night. Plus, you can turn the light on and off using a pushbutton remote control from up to 50 feet away, or by using the backlit switches on the light fixture and the battery pack. The light offers two brightness settings and runs for 22 hours on the low setting and 12 to 14 hours on the high. p The WeatherMaster 6 is even built to keep you cool during the summertime, with Coleman’s Comfort System letting you control the airflow in conjunction with the vented Cooler Port. Other features include an easy-to-set-up design with color-coded steel poles, continuous pole sleeves, InstaClip attachments, and an exclusive pin-and-ring design; self-rolling windows that let you instantly or partially roll the windows up or down to your liking; an interior gear pocket; an electrical access port; and easy-to-follow instructions sewn into the durable carrying bag, which comes with extra storage bags for the poles and stakes. ptable align=right width=300 cellpadding=10trtdimg src=”http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/stores/sport-goods/B001RPIOMI-1.jpg” border=0 align=topbrbrsmallibThe tent’s long-lasting lighting system offers 2 brightness settings./b/i/small/td/tr/tablebSpecifications:/bulliCenter height: 76 inches liFlysheet: Polyester taffeta 75 denier with 450mm polyurethane coating liTent material: 75-denier polyester with 450mm coating on inner tent liMesh: 68-denier polyester lIFloor: 1,000-denier floor, 140 g/m2 liBase dimensions: 17 by 9 feet liPoles: 9.5mm and 11mm fiberglass and 19mm steel liCountry of origin: Made in China liWarranty: Limited 1 year /ulpbAbout Coleman/bbr More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a “no light, no pay” clause–a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked–and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark. p In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company’s current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won’t deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.p

Coleman Elite WeatherMaster 6 Tent CustomerReview

This tent held up great under both heavy rain and wind storms. We purchased this tent to use at dog shows. We travel with two small dogs and sleep on a queen air mattress. We setup in farmer fields and not usually at campgrounds. The tent did leak a little the first time we used it and since that time I have sealed the seams with no other leaks. Our first two outings were in terrible rain storms with strong winds. The tent was great. However on our last outing in October, it was cold at night once the temperature gets lower the cold wind blows in the top of the tent under the rain-fly–that would be great in hot weather but not on cold nights. The setup is easy and along with another reviewer–I don’t extend the poles after I set it up. (To difficult) The rain-fly does really require two people on a windy day to put on.br /br /The screen porch is very nice to put things in like coolers, drying racks and dog crates. Overall we are very happy with this tent and would recommend it.

Negative-angle windows allow the window to be open for ventilation even in mild rain conditions, allowing ventilation and outside viewing during an afternoon shower or a gentle nighttime rain. The included tent light, featuring a replaceable 15-watt spiral fluorescent tube, has two settings (High/Low) and sheds a super-bright 350 lumens on High; on a set of 8 D-cell batteries (not included), the light will run for up to 22 hours on Low. The Montana Elite Tent features a vented Cool-Air Port for improved airflow, and you can control airflow with Coleman’s VariFlow adjustable ventilation. A convenient electrical-access port lets you run a cord from your device in the tent to a power supply outside. An interior gear pocket helps keep your things organized. The modified-dome structure of the Montana 8 includes a covered front porch and wings, for ample outdoor living space. Setting up the Montana 8 is a breeze, thanks to shock-corded poles, continuous pole sleeves, pin-and-ring design and InstaClip attachments; easy-to-follow set-up instructions are sewn right into the carry bag, so you’ll always have them handy. The frame is strong and wind-resistant, with 11mm, 9.5mm and 6.3mm fiberglass poles; the tent fabric is 68D polyester mesh and 75D polyester taffeta inside, with a 75D polyester taffeta flysheet. A durable carry bag is included, with separate storage sacks for tent, poles and stakes. Limited 1-year warranty.

Coleman Elite Montana 8 Tent CustomerReview

I have used other large tents but always with some problems of leaking or not really designed well for comfort and convenience. However useing our new Coleman Montana tent for the first time, we found it very well designed and constructed for convenience like a new door type of entry, automatic roll screen covers, plus it was fairly easy to set-up. Set-up and tear-down in the future will be even easier and faster now that we have done it once or so, but with any large tent with exterior support poles it does take two people. On the first weekend we woke-up to a pouring rain with no moisture at all in the tent. The small awning over the door is great when raining. This may be the only large tent that actually fits back into the canvas carrying bag without much trouble.br /br /Although there may be many good camping and outdoor products on the market, I feel that you can’t go wrong in buying the Coleman brand on any of their camping equipment or products. They’ve been around a long time and know how to make quality designed and built products, assureing returning and new customers.

Coleman Bayside 8-Person Family Tent – Orange CustomerReview

I purchased this tent last summer in anticipation of a 4-day camping trip. I will admit that i was initially attracted to its aesthetic appeal, however, the monsterous amount of space and ample screening sealed the deal!br /br /I set it up in the yard soon after it arrived to seal the seams and to acclimate myself with it’s assembly. The instructions are stitched right into the carrier bag so they can’t be misplaced or torn – a nice feature, in my opinion.br /br /The poles are color coded and easy to fit. The tent went up in about 15 minutes…. and that was just because I was new to the process. br /br /On to seam sealing… You are going to need more than one bottle of seam sealer to do the whole thing… I got 2/3rds of the way around and ran out. I packed it up after that and finished sealing the day that we arrived at the campground. br /br /During our stay we received one night of TERRIBLE rain! This tent DID NOT LEAK !!! Not one drop! It was really fantastic!br /br /Dismantling is simple. The tent does fit back in the bag (with a little effort…. be sure to squeeze out all of the air as you roll and do so as tightly as possible). br /br /Th

Coleman Exponent Tyl X2 Tent CustomerReview

I absolutely love this tent. If your looking for something lightweight and compactible, this is it. It’s so easy to set up and super easy to take down and put back into its carrying bag. The materials are the same as whatr you would get with any expensive high-end tent. I fit in this tent just fine with my girlfriend. We slept in it outside in the rain just to test it and we stayed completely dry. This tent has the best full rain fly I’ve ever used. I recommend this tent to any fellow backpacker and to anyone just looking for a great tent. Coleman has really stepped up its game, as far as making quality tents.

Coleman Instant 14- by 10- Foot 8- Person Two Room Tent CustomerReview

This tent is exactly what I was looking for. It sets up in less than 5 mins and is roomy as hell. I love being able to open up all the windows for a screen house effect. The tent also packs up pretty good too. The bag supplied is ample and extra straps are supplied. What I don’t like about the tent is for the size of the tent I was expecting more storage room to hold things, more pockets and compartments. It also lacks access holes to the outside. I used my tent in the rain and it held up without any leaks. One other dislike I have is the strength of the poles I feel the poles should be a tad bit thicker. I look forward to many years with this tent.

Coleman Hooligan 4 Tent CustomerReview

I bought this tent for my trip to Yellowstone. I loved how I could have it set up in under 10 minutes and that it only took one person. This allowed my friend to get the food cooked faster upon our late arrival to the campsite. It’s a good quality tent as far as the material, the zippers work well and don’t snag. I love the vestibule and how you can keep shoes and other gear out of the tent, yet protected from the elements. The all mesh tent body has great pros and not so good cons. br /Pros: The first time I used it was Father’s Day weekend. My 5 yr. old nephew and I stayed in it without the rainfly on as it was 70+ degrees overnight (yes even in northern Wisconsin we have great summers). The mesh was a great feature as it allowed us to watch the stars and millions of fireflies which had my chatter nephew speechless. Great experience! ; D You have the feeling of sleeping right out under the stars without the annoying bugs . The size of the tent is great not too big that the tent is annoying to pack or find enough room to setup, yet not too small so that 3 people and a good bit of gear can still fit in it. 4 people really do fit comfortably. The base of the tent is made of good quality/ durable material. It’s a little noisy but I’d take noise over a leaky floor any day. br /Cons: The support sleeves that the poles slide into are made of the same material as the tent body. It’d be better to make these with a more rugged/ durable material as the metal female ends of the poles have rubbed holes through the material in the 4 months i’ve owned the tent. Also the sleeves made a good space for earwigs to crawl into as earwigs are a common nuisance in northern wisconsin. It’d be better and easier if there were plastic tabs to place over the poles like other tents I’ve seen in place of the sleeves. Also like another customer mentioned there aren’t any loops or hooks to hang a lantern/ flashlight or fan from the top of the tent. Also with the tent body almost entirely mesh, it allows too much air flow on cold night even with the rain fly on. Our first night in Yellowstone the temperature dropped down to 38 degrees and this was in the middle of August. It made for a really cold night. It would have been nice to be able to zip something over the door to protect from the big space of the vestibule where cold air was gathering. The other sides of the tents were close enough that it didn’t allow much air flow in, but something over the door would definitely be a nice addition. The stakes are light which make it great for packing, but they also bend pretty easily, I think about 5 of them are bent out of whack already.br /br /A few minor adjustments and this tent good tent would be amazing! I know I had a lot of cons, but I really do love this tent. I’ve just been bringing an extra blanket for insulation and wear my snowboarding baselayers under my sweats at night. Like I said I’ve only had the tent for 4 mos. but I’ve used it at least 12 times. I think that speaks for itself. A great tent, easily packed, easily assembled and offers great versatility for weather and a great price with fast shipping from Amazon!

Coleman Cool Zephyr Ceiling Fan with Light Specifications

Keep your tent cool, comfortable, and well lit on warm summer or fall evenings with the Coleman Cool Zephyr ceiling fan, which includes a built-in light. The Cool Zephyr features an adjustable two-speed airflow control, so you can set the fan to high if you’re desperate for circulation or low if you just need a steady breeze. Best of all, the Cool Zephyr attaches to any tent with its powerful magnetic plates. The Cool Zephyr runs on four D-cell batteries (sold separately). pbAbout Coleman/bbr More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas.

Coleman Cool Zephyr Ceiling Fan with Light CustomerReview

Here’s the damage report:br /The plastic on the LED light’s is cracked, I’ve replaced the batteries once, and the blades are slightly damaged.br /br /…not bad for it’s 4th year…br /br /Really durable fan, I use it every year at boyscout summer camp, and the damage hasn’t even hurt the performance. I Replaced the batteries once year, but that’s just because I thought they would run out. Excellent fan, a bit heavy yes, but when batteries are the source of the power the unit usually gets heavy. Another good fan is the O2Cool Portable Canopy/Tent Fan, so you should check out my review on that.
