pAs the war progressed, rail traffic came increasingly under threat from ambushes by partisans or resistance fighters, as well as aerial attacks from marauding aircraft. Thus, rail wagons often sported light weapon systems like machine guns or flak cannons.br /br /The newest Orange Box set (Item No. 9115) includes a dioramic piece of railway track and features a Type Ommr gondola wagon with an accompanying gun crew ready to fire on attacking aircraft via an MG affixed on an anti-aircraft mount. This set also comes with bonus figures—this time Feldgendarmerie (German MPs) patrolling with guard dogs. This makes the set suitable for a train station or marshalling yard scene, but modelers will only be limited by their own creativity! This is my favorite model – period. It has great detail and is at a reasonable price. Tamiya has been around for years and is really the benchmark to which other plastic models are compared. I made an 88mm Flak Gun when I was a teenager in the 70’s and it was awesome. I am now getting back into modeling after being away many years and can’t wait to do another one of these. However, it is a bit more challenging than some of the other armor Tamiya models, so I would not try this one until I built up my proficiency (it has many very small detailed parts), but it is definitely worth working up to as a goal. In other words, this should not be the first model you try to build. It works wonderfully as a stand alone piece in a diorama or can be combined in armor battle scenes or with aircraft as this gun was often used as a anti-aircraft gun as well.

This is part of a series of 1/35 models from Tamiya. The plastic is very tough, enabling precision cutting and proper handling of even the tiniest components, which is a good thing because there are many tiny components here, giving a satisfyingly detailed and authentic feel.br /br /There have been some complaints on this forum. I must emphasize that this is not a toy for kids. Instead, it is a plastic model for hobbyists. Tamiya is among the best in the trade, and the “green color cheap plastic” is famous for its toughness. Building, gluing and painting them is exactly the fun activity intelligent people pay good money for. Giving it one star is akin to whining about the steak tartare you ordered being undercooked.
