Tired of tents that promise a quick setup, but still have you puzzling over the shock-corded poles 10 minutes in? Turn to the Coleman eight-person Instant Tent, which assembles and collapses in one minute or less. The secret to the tent’s seamless setup is the pole system, which comes pre-attached to the tent. As a result, assembly couldn’t be easier: just unfold the tent, spread it out, extend the poles, click them together, and lock them into place. Before you know it, you’ll have a full two-room tent that stands 14 by 10 feet, with a center height of 6 feet 5 inches. ptable align=left width=350 cellpadding=10trtdimg src=”http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/stores/sport-goods/B003QUT9OE-1.jpg” border=0 align=topbrbrsmallibThe Coleman Instant Tent sets up and collapses in 1 minute or less./b/i/small/td/tr/table Despite the tent’s versatility, it’s still as strong and weatherproof as ever, with Coleman’s exclusive WeatherTec system helping protect you from inclement weather and nasty storms. WeatherTec tents are built with a coated polyester fabric combined with anti-wicking thread, webbing, and zippers, all designed to keep you dry when the rain comes down. The tent’s welded waterproof floor and inverted floor seams, meanwhile, dramatically increase the water resistance by hiding the needle holes inside the tent and away from the elements. And campers will love the strong, wind-responsive frame, which includes redesigned poles and guy-out triangles that anchor the tents and increase performance. In fact, Coleman is so confident in its WeatherTec system that it exposes its WeatherTec tents to a rain room that simulates nasty downpours, and to a wind machine capable of blowing hurricane force gusts. The results? Even after the tests, Coleman guarantees its WeatherTec tents will keep you dry. p The tent’s exterior is tough and long-lasting, with heavy-duty 150D construction that’s twice as thick as Coleman’s standard tent fabric. When combined with the fully taped rain fly seams, the tent can even keep you dry without requiring a separate rain fly. The tent also offers ample room for sleeping or hanging out. Campers have their choice of sleeping in one large room with enough space for eight people, or dropping down the divider and turning the tent into a two-room palace. And hot nights will seem far more refreshing thanks to the two doors and seven windows, which provide terrific ventilation and 360-degree views. Other features include vertical walls that make it easy to stand and move about the tent, an interior gear pocket, reverse angle windows, and easy-to-follow instructions sewn into the durable carrying bag. The tent carries a limited one-year warranty. ptable align=right width=300 cellpadding=10trtdimg src=”http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/stores/sport-goods/B003QUT9OE-2.jpg” border=0 align=topbrbrsmallibThe tent boasts a roomy interior with sleeping space for up to 8 people./b/i/small/td/tr/tablebSpecifications:/bulliCenter height: 6 feet 5 inches liBase dimensions: 14 feet by 10 feet liDoors: 2 liWindows: 7 liBody fabric: 150D polyester liCountry of origin: Made in China liWarranty: Limited 1 year /ulpbAbout Coleman/bbr More than 100 years ago, a young man with an entrepreneurial spirit and a better idea began manufacturing lanterns in Wichita, Kansas. His name was W.C. Coleman, and the company he founded would change life in America. A man plagued with such poor vision he sometimes had to ask classmates to read aloud to him, Coleman saw a brilliant light in 1900 in a drugstore window that stopped him in his tracks. He inquired about the light inside and discovered he was able to read even the small print on a medicine bottle by the illumination. The lamps had mantles, not wicks, and were fueled by gasoline under pressure instead of coal oil. Soon afterward, Coleman started a lighting service that offered a “no light, no pay” clause–a big step forward for merchants who were burned by inferior products that rarely worked–and drew substantial interest from businesses that wanted to keep their lights on after dark. p In the ensuing years, Coleman expanded its product line well beyond lanterns. The company’s current catalog is thick with products that make spending time outdoors a pleasure. There are coolers that keep food and drinks cold for days on end, comfortable airbeds that won’t deflate during the night, a complete line of LED lights that last for years, powerful portable grills that cook with an authentic open-grill flame, and much, much more. Coleman has truly fashioned much of our outdoor camping experience, and expects to do so for generations to come.p

Coleman Instant 14- by 10- Foot 8- Person Two Room Tent CustomerReview

I was concerned when I bought this tent about the reviews that said there was no ventilation do to no rain-fly. That is not quite accurate. Some of the windows are made so that they do not `totally zip closed, but do look like they will keep out the rain (unless it’s raining *up* from the ground) {it did not rain on our camping trip, but I still don’t see the rain getting in those windows}. I did notice that at some places (near the zippers and such) there was some fraying of the tent material after just a few hours of the tent being used. I was NOT happy with this, but a quick (and exceeding *CAREFUL*) fusing with a lighter and this seems to have stopped (we’ll see on the next camping trip).br /br /I LOVE how fast and easy this tent goes up and down! We took 2 tents on our trip last weekend, the Coleman instatent, and a small 4 man dome tent for our Cub Scouts. It took us a lot longer to set up and tear down their little tent than it did our big 8 man tent.br /

Swiss Gear Montreaux Ten Person Family Dome Tent (Sage/Light Grey/Orange) CustomerReview

I was worried about buying this tent without any reviews posted, but I decided to take the chance anyway. Hopefully my review can help someone else out. I have not been camping in this tent yet, but it is currently set up in my back yard taking on the rain as we speak. First of all, the tent was very well packed and protected in a great bag when it arrived. The instructions said that two adults were required for assembly, but all I had was my four-year-old son. The instructions for assembly are sewn into the bag, so you cannot lose them! I set my son to work assembling the poles which he did with ease since they all have a cord inside that helps snap them together. The parts are not labeled, but they make sense for assembly anyway. After sorting all of the poles, I rolled the tent out onto a tarp base that I purchased to protect the bottom of the tent. We quickly inserted the poles into the top of the tent and had the main dome up in a matter of 10 minutes. After that, the rest of the assembly took only another 10 minutes, including the rain fly. The fly was a challenge to put on the tent with only one adult since the tent is so tall, but I managed to get it in place. So far, the rain fly is my only concern because after securing it in place, it caused the two smaller rooms on the back side of the tent to deform slightly. I did not mark this rating down however, as after looking at it, my back yard is somewhat unlevel, and I believe that is the cause for this deformation. I will report back after I have had a chance to assemble later on level ground on our first camping trip.br /br /I have to say that walking into this tent for the first time was a real treat. This is the first tent I have ever owned which allowed me to stand upright inside. The two smaller rooms on the back side are shorter, however, I think most people will use these rooms for storage. The room divider runs parallel with the front door of the tent, with a single zipper that runs from top to bottom in the middle. The two halves of the divider separate and tie up at the sides so you can comfortably walk underneath. It looks like the 17.5 foot wide back half of the tent will comfortably accomodate two queen sized air mattresses, which is what we plan to put inside. This leaves the front half of the tent to put our other items. Of course you will be able to set the interior up however you would like. There are little pockets all over the inside of the tent which will allow us to stow smaller items like keys, phones, kids toys, or even shoes. As far as the build of the tent is concerned, it seems well made with good solid materials and craftsmanship. The floor is not a solid piece, however, it is “a sonic-welded polyethylene floor” and I have no reason to believe that the welded seams would ever leak. As I said above the tent has been out in rainy conditions for five hours now. Even without seam sealer, the tent has only one very small leak in the back, and that leak has amounted to about half the size of a dollar bill. Not bad for steady rainfall. I will be buying a seam sealing kit soon and taking care of all of the seams inside. Once that is done, I think this tent will be everything we need and more for a family of four.

Bring the family to the campsite and still have plenty of room to spare with the two-room Columbia Cougar Flats II cabin dome tent. The Cougar Flats II–which sleeps up to eight people–is equipped with both a Cyclone venting system and a GoBe Dry rain protection system. The Cyclone system greatly increases the air circulation within the tent, helping you stay cool on warmer days or dry out after a nasty rainstorm. The GoBe Dry system, meanwhile, ensures that the pounding rain won’t find a way inside. The tent even includes a patented bay window design that lets you keep the windows open during the storm. p The real highlight of the tent, however, is the spacious interior, which divides its ample sleeping space between two different rooms. As a result, you can give the kids one room and the adults the other, or you can use one room as a bedroom and the other as a living space. In addition, the interior of the tent offers plenty of organizational features, such as internal pockets, cupholders for coffee or soft drinks, and a gear loft that holds your valuables out of the way. And once it’s time to leave the campsite, the tent collapses quickly into a wheeled EZ Pak storage bag, which features an expandable zippered gusset for easy stuffing. p Other features include a polyester taffeta body and rainfly, steel and fiberglass poles, two separate doors, and a Camp Port for easy cable passage. Columbia Cougar Flats II 15-Foot by 10-Foot 8 Person 2 Room Family Cabin Dome Tent CustomerReview

After a tremendous amount of research, I decided this tent was definitely the way to go for our family of four. I will not repeat everything previous reviewers have said here (I read them all and additional ones at other sites), but I do want to let you know that the newest model of this tent is now available through amazon and not a third party seller. The tent listed here is model number CB-9001. The amazon.com buying option is CB-9001-10. I called amazon and they couldn’t give me an answer about the difference. I then called North Pole at 1-866-706-9377 to get the low-down. The CB-9001-10 is the newest, 2010 version. br /br /The difference with newer model:br /1. Added awning: a fabulous addition, especially if you want to leave muddy shoes at the door!br /2. Pole issue has been resolved.br /3. Floor is now made of nylon. The rep says this cuts down on noise and is also less prone to holes. They do strongly advise using a tent saver underneath. Make sure it is slightly smaller than the tent footprint.br /br /Additional Info missing from previous reviews:br /1. Rainfly has a 800mm coating. Tent buying guides usually recommend 1000-1500mm, but this tent does seem water resistant.br /2. Mesh netting is no-see-um rated.br /3. Seams are factory sealed, however rep said you can use Kenyon 3 sealer as extra insurance.br /4. Columbia does not recommend coating the tent. This can have a reverse effect on moisture control!br /5. There is a limited-lifetime warranty on tent, but you must save original receipt.br /6. Yes, the second room does not have its own entrance, but we have a 5 and 4 yr old, so I decided it was a safety PLUS for us.br /br /Hope this helps! I researched the bejeezus out of family, cabin-style tents and this one seems to be by far the best all-around tent for the price, factoring features, materials, quality vs. cost. The only other tent I seriously considered was Eureka’s Titan Luxury Family Tent, but at nearly 0 more, it wasn’t worth the price jump.br /br /In Summary: Buy the newest model of this tent!! Amazon’s price is the same as competitors and you get free shipping. Happy camping! I will update my review after receiving tent. br /br /

Designed for privacy, this cabin-style, 14-foot x 12-foot two-room dome tent with 86 inches of center head room accommodates eight campers and has a divider curtain to divide the tent into two rooms. Two D-style doors provide separate entries. A welded-polyethylene tub-style floor keeps out ground moisture. The tent is made of rugged, weather-resistant polyester with a polyurethane coating for reliability. A removable fly keeps out rain. Double-stitched, lap-feld seams provide a shingle effect to prevent moisture seepage. A rain-shingle layer on the tent’s lower portion provides a watershed effect. Other weather-resistant details include thread, zippers, and webbing treated with water repellents. Six windows and roof are made of polyester mesh. A shockcorded steel frame provides stability and quick set-up. A loft stores gear. The tent has a carry weight of 47.2 pounds and comes with a 10-year warranty against defects.pstrongfont color=CC6600BIGAmazon.com Tent Guide/BIG/font/strongbrstrongfont color=CC6600Selecting a Tent/font/strongbr Fortunately, there are all kinds of tents for weekend car campers, Everest expeditions, and everything in-between. Here are a few things to keep in mind:pstrongfont color=CC6600Expect the Worst/font/strongbr In general, it’s wise to choose a tent that’s designed to withstand the worst possible conditions you think you’ll face. For instance, if you’re a summer car camper in a region where weather is predictable, an inexpensive family or all purpose tent will likely do the trick–especially if a vehicle is nearby and you can make a mad dash for safety when bad weather swoops in! If you’re a backpacker, alpine climber or bike explorer, or if you like to car camp in all seasons, you’ll want to take something designed to handle more adversity.pstrongfont color=CC6600Three- and Four-Season Tents/font/strongbr For summer, early fall and late spring outings, choose a three-season tent. At minimum, a quality three season tent will have lightweight aluminum poles, a reinforced floor, durable stitching, and a quality rain-fly. Some three-season tents offer more open-air netting and are more specifically designed for summer backpacking and other activities. Many premium tents will feature pre-sealed, taped seams and a silicone-impregnated rain-fly for enhanced waterproofness.p For winter camping or alpine travel, go with a four season model. Because they typically feature more durable fabric coatings, as well as more poles, four-season tents are designed to handle heavy snowfall and high winds without collapsing. Of course, four-season tents exact a weight penalty of about 10 to 20 percent in trade for their strength and durability. They also tend to be more expensive.pstrongfont color=CC6600Domes and Tunnels/font/strongbr Tents are broadly categorized into two types, freestanding, which can stand up on their own, and those that must be staked down in order to stand upright. Freestanding tents often incorporate a dome-shaped design, and most four-season tents are constructed this way because a dome leaves no flat spots on the outer surface where snow can collect. Domes are also inherently stronger than any other design. Meanwhile, many three-season models employ a modified dome configuration called a tunnel. These are still freestanding, but they require fewer poles than a dome, use less fabric, and typically have a rectangular floor-plan that offers less storage space than a dome configuration. Many one and two-person tents are not freestanding, but they make up for it by being more lightweight. Because they use fewer poles, they can also be quicker to set up than a dome.pstrongfont color=CC6600Size Matters/font/strongbr Ask yourself how many people you’d like to fit in your fabric hotel now and in the future. For soloists and minimalists, check out one-person tents. If you’re a mega-minimalist, or if you have your eye on doing some big wall climbs, a waterproof-breathable bivy sack is the ticket. Some bivy sacks feature poles and stake points to give you a little more breathing room. Also, if you don’t need bug protection and you want to save weight, check out open-air shelters.p Families who plan on car camping in good weather can choose from a wide range of jumbo-sized tents that will accommodate all your little ones with room to spare. A wide range of capacities is also available for three- and four-season backpacking and expedition tents. Remember, though, the bigger the tent you buy, the heavier it will be, although it’s easy to break up the tent components among several people in your group. It’s also helpful to compare the volume and floor-space measurements of models you’re considering.p

Wenzel Grand Lodge 14- by 12-Foot, 8 Person Cabin Dome Tent CustomerReview

After researching about a dozen different tents over several weeks, I decided there was not a tent available that would fit exactly what I was looking for. But the Wenzel Grand Lodge came the closest to it, so that’s what I bought.br /br /We considered other brands’ large tents. But in many of the campgrounds we frequent, the sites would not easily accommodate some of the larger dimensions. This tent is 14×12, with a total of 168 sq. feet. We looked at one tent I liked that was 17×10, with 170 sq feet. But the extra 3 feet of length would mean our options for locating it would have been more limited.br /br /My family of four camps with a ton of gear. But we like to enjoy camping, not endure it. And we like much of it in the tent with us, so I wanted a tent with lots of storage space. This tent has it. We have two large Slumberjack cots for my wife me, and two Thermarest pads for our kids. And there was still room for all our clothing, two folding chairs, and a tall heater.br /br /The tent was easy to set up the first time, but you have to follow the directions on the tent bag. The poles are color coded and it’s easy to see what connects where. I don’t know how long the colored stickers on the poles and connectors will last, so I will be marking them myself with a paint pen.br /br /The first night we got a little chilly when the temp dipped down to about 40º. We had a small heater, but it was not enough to maintain warmth in this big tent. Especially when you consider the top of the main tent is about 95% screen. So I went into town the next day and bought a larger heater and two king-size sheets. I spread the sheets out over the top of the main tent, covering the screen top pretty well. That night it got down to about 37º, but we were toasty warm. Lesson learned. I think for long term we will have a seamstress I know add some velcro strips to the top of the tent and the sheets.
br /br /The third night it rained off and on all night. There were no thunderstorms, but it was a steady, fairly hard rain. I had Scotchguarded the entire tent, so I was anxious to see how it would hold up. The next morning we had two small puddles where rain has wicked through the tent wall due to something inside touching the wall. Otherwise, it was completely dry. I was pleased with the results, considering how much it had rained.br /br /We’re all really pleased with this tent. The day we were leaving I asked my six-year-old daughter if she wants to go camping again soon. She replied, “Yes, Friday!”

Trek Cotton Canvas Cabin Tent, 9×12, 7 Person CustomerReview

Four family members spent 4 days and nights in the Superior National Forest near Ely, Mn. Weather was in the 20’s and low 30’s at night. With proper heat, the tent was as warm as a cabin. Just keep the windows cracked. Rain fly withstood the couple of inches of snow we received. Deer hunting was pretty good also. We might expand tent city to include another 10×14 or a 9×12 next year. The zippers are a few inches off the ground. Nice tent Trek. Dennis from Minnesota.
