I purchased this speaker to amplify the sound of my I-Pod Touch, 2nd Generation, but I believe it will work with other I-Pods as well. It comes with a cable, of which one end plugs into the speaker, and one end into a USB outlet, which can either be in your computer, or in an AC adapter for an electrical outlet. It also runs for quite a long time on its 4 Triple A batteries, but you need to remember to turn the speaker switch to Off, when not using it. It also has a volume control switch, so if the volume control on your I-Pod doesn’t make the sound loud enough, you can increase it even more by using the speaker’s volume control. And it really does put out quite a lot of sound! Good enough to fill a room … you can hear it quite easily while doing dishes, etc. and it is not tinny in quality, but rather rich for such a small speaker.br /br /I made a dumb mistake at first, and nearly returned it. As I said, it had a cable from the speaker to an outlet, but I saw no cable that connected the speaker to the I-Pod! I finally realized you have to open up the back battery compartment where tucked inside there is also the cable to the I-Pod. So you pull it out, and one end is permanently attached to the speaker, and the other end connects to the little round hole at the bottom of the I-Pod (not the flat hole … sorry, I don’t know what these types of connections are called.) This allows you to also have a power cord attached to the flat opening, so your I-Pod can run off an outlet at the same time as your speaker. br /br /The only somewhat negative feature is the cable that was tucked into the back compartment. It is thin, so I worry about its durability, and it is short, only 7″ long, which means your I-Pod can only be 7″ away from it. That’s fine if you leave your I-Pod in one place, and leave it within 7″ of the speaker. It’s also okay if you’re carrying both pieces around with you, but often when I pick up the I-Pod to change songs or whatever, it tugs at the speaker, yanking on that thin cable, and causing the speaker to fly up into the air as I’m picking up my I-Pod. I worry about that cable detaching from the speaker at some point. You can get an extension cable, however, to lengthen the distance between the speaker and the I-Pod. Go to an electronics store, and they will help you find one.br /br /The speaker has a nice, compact shape. It’s about the same rectangular size and shape as the I-Pod, (though thicker), so I can carry them around easily together, by stacking the I-Pod on the speaker like a sandwich, and holding them together in one hand until I get to a table to set them down on. I’ve also used them on the seat next to me in the car, running just on the batteries. In spite of my complaint about the thin, short cable, I gave it a 5 because of its great sound amplification, long battery life, its portability, and very reasonable price. It does its job!

I own this clock radio purchased at BB. My objective was to find a stylish clock radio that would fit on my smallish night stand. It had to have dual alarms – 5 day and weekend mode; and be able to have choice of either buzzer alarm or radio. The display must have dim settings. This Philips model does all that and a lot more.br /br /Little did I know the search would take me to so many stores. Nowadays, clock radios are an afterthought. Most are cheap-o looking and garish. I couldn’t believe the poor quality of clock radios out there. This Philips model fits the bill for me with a couple of caveats – see below. Although an iPod dock wasn’t on my required list, the choices for clock radios are so much better than without it.br /br /Here’s what I like:br /* Great sound from such a small unitbr /* Small footprint on the night stand – most other clock radios with iPod docks are a bit largebr /* Contemporary looking – looks nice with my black iPod Classicbr /* Easy to use – albeit it helps to read the manualbr /* Remote to set time and alarm, as well as play iPodbr /* Charges iPod while in dockbr /* Gradual alarm from whisper-quiet to loudbr /* Ability to use either the (gentle) buzzer, radio or iPod for the alarm br /* Feels sturdybr /* Did I mention the great sound?br /br /Here are those caveats:br /* The main purpose of the clock radio is to tell the time. The numbers are a bit over-stylized which you can’t really tell on the photo online or the box. It’s evident as soon as it’s plugged in. It’s hard to read the time from say across the bedroom while getting dressed. But I have gotten used to it; so just a warning in case you really need, say large, bright plain numbers.br /br /* The display doesn’t have enough dim settings; it’s either very bright, less-bright-but-still-bright or off. This is unfortunate; as sometimes I do wake up in the middle of the night wondering what time it is. However the less-bright-but-still-bright lights up the room a bit too much so I use the off setting. It’s not a deal breaker but if you are really sensitive to the light; then you might want to consider another model – amazingly, it’s difficult to find a model where there are decent dim settings.br /br /Overall, I’m very pleased with the clock radio and would recommend it but also note those warnings about the brightness and somewhat difficult to read numbers.
